Jason Mitchell became an overnight sensation with his charismatic breakout as Eazy-E in *Straight Outta Compton* (2015), followed by strong turns in *Kong: Skull Island* and the hit series *The Chi*. Universal and Netflix had him pegged as the next major Black leading man with crossover appeal in both drama and action.
In 2019–2020, Mitchell was fired from *The Chi* and *Desperados* amid allegations of misconduct on set. He was later arrested on drug and weapons charges (which he called a misunderstanding). Major studios distanced themselves instantly. The promising career that had Hollywood calling his name went silent almost overnight.
