Dominique Dunne burst onto the scene as Dana Freeling in the 1982 horror blockbusterPoltergeist. She also appeared inThe Shadow Ridersand episodes ofHill Street Blues, showing immense promise as a dramatic actress.
Tragically, Dominique was strangled to death at 22 by her ex-boyfriend John Sweeney in a domestic violence attack outside her home. Sweeney was convicted of voluntary manslaughter. Her father, author Dominick Dunne, became a vocal advocate for victims’ rights, and her story helped spark national conversations about domestic abuse.
