The saiga antelope looks like a small antelope with a dramatically oversized, flexible trunk-like nose that hangs over its mouth. Once roaming vast Eurasian steppes, it now survives in only a few protected areas of Russia and Kazakhstan.

That strange proboscis filters dust, warms cold air in winter, and cools hot air in summer—acting like a built-in air conditioner and gas mask. Sadly critically endangered, the saiga’s unique nose makes it instantly recognizable.
