37. Read the Built-In Tire Wear Indicators for Free Maintenance Checks

Look between the tread grooves for small raised bars (called wear indicators). When the tread wears down to the same level as these bars, it’s time to replace the tires. They’re molded into every tire and visible when you squat down.
This free check prevents unsafe driving and hydroplaning. Smart drivers inspect them every month during fuel stops. Knowing this trick means you’ll never be surprised by bald tires or fail a safety inspection again.
