The satanic leaf-tailed gecko is a small lizard with a body and tail that look exactly like a decaying leaf, complete with “veins,” brown spots, and ragged edges. It clings to trees in the rainforests of Madagascar, growing only 4–6 inches long.

Its camouflage is so perfect that 40+ hikers walk right past it. The “satanic” name comes from the devilish horns above its eyes and its eerie red eyes at night. When threatened, it flattens itself against bark and vanishes.
